Tonya is the owner of Life By Design Counseling. She started in 2004 as a life coach working with other women that were entrepreneurs working from home running their own businesses. At the time Tonya had the opportunity to stay home with her newborn son, work from home and pursue her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin Rock County and then UW Whitewater. During her time operating Life By Design Coaching, she was the host of Journey of Self internet radio show and later co-hosted Mom's Coffee Break and Ladies, Let's Talk. In addition she wrote a monthly newsletter. Tonya presented a variety of online educational classes and workshops on topics covering personal development, family management, and online business tips.
Life coaching helped Tonya realize her true calling, which was helping people design the life they wanted to live. In 2009 she graduated with her Bachelors Degree in Psychology with a minor in Women's Studies from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. Tonya felt called to be a counselor and in the fall of 2009 she entered graduate school. She earned her Masters Degree in Community Counseling with an emphasis on Addictions in 2012. Shortly after graduation she became the treatment provider for the Rock County OWI Treatment Court Program when it started in Fall of 2012 and remained in that position until May 2018.
Tonya is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) as well as a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). Recently she got her Clinical Supervisor in Training (CSIT) license in order to provide supervision and assistance to other Substance Abuse counselors. She is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors. Tonya specializes in the treatment of trauma. She is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and Brainspotting along with other modalities.
In 2017 Tonya realized her dream of opening Life By Design Counseling and specializing in Trauma and co-occurring disorders (both mental health and substance abuse issues). Tonya feels that everyone deserves to live their life by design and make the future they want a reality. She believes that through empowerment true healing can begin leading to recovery and sustained change.
